What to do

We think that your visit in Karkonosze Mountains should go well beyond cosy couch in the front of the fireplace! According to some sources, first ever in the world, mountain-guide association was established in 1817 in….. yes! In Karkonosze Mountains (called at the time Riesengebirge, in German – Giant Mountains). Our valley, known as Valley of Gardens & Palaces, has highest density of palaces & castles per square kilometer in Europe. And that would probably make it in the world too 🙂 . Miles and kilometers of marked tourist paths for hiking and biking are starting just behind our fence – from our gate to the border of National Park of Karkonosze Mountains is maybe 200 meters… And skiing of course! Closest resort is called Szklarska Poręba, about 12km by car, after another 15km takes you to Harrachov (Czech Republic), and if you add another 25 you will end in Spindleruv Mlyn, major resort on other side of the border. Other popular skiing place is Karpacz, about 20 kms from us. Don’t forget the cross country tracks! In Jakuszyce, 20km away, is 2nd most important Polish cross country skiing centre, which doubles as capital of Polish husky dogs races. But this is just the beginning of what our area offers to visitors.

Interesting places: Castle Chojnik, Uranium Mine, Miniatures Park, Wang Stavechurch, Pilchowice Dam, Gliders Mountain, Sokoliki rock climbing area, Dino Park, Ostrzyca Park – extinguished volcano, Colored Lakes, Frydlant Castle, Czocha Castle and many more.

For Fitness fans: hiking and biking trails, ski pistes and cross country skiing tracks of Karkonosze, „Quasar”, School of Mountaineering (line parks, paintball, extreme skiing, etc), Goduszyn stables, rock climbing arena “Sokoliki”, motorcycle tours (feel free to ask – we have bikes ourselves and love travelling around), Gliders Mountain for beginner paragliders, and rest of the mountains for experienced pilots.

Here are few routes we consider interesting. For motorcycle or car.

For Artistic souls: photography or painting (best colors are at the beginning of October), museums & galleries of Jelenia Góra, artist bohema in neighbouring villages of Michałowice, Krobica, Pławna (home of Dariusz Miliński), yearly Street Theatre Festival, folk music “Gitarą i Piórem” festivals (one of mentors of Polish ballad music, Wojciech Jarociński lives in Jelenia Góra), and much more.

Our Retreat can be a very good starting base for longer distance tours like Palace of Książ (50kms), Prague (150 kms), or Berlin (300km).

Whichever way you choose to spend your time we are always on hand to help with advice or recommendations. If you feel uncomfortable with Polish language (which our kids admit is not an easy one to learn properly 🙂 ) we will be happy to be your guides in the area (for a small fee). Maybe we will show you some of our “special” places too…

And here a very good map for route planning:
